All dogs boarded with us must hold a current vaccination certificate and have been inoculated within the last 12 months. Your dog must have the following vaccinations:
- Kennel Cough
We regret, without the above vaccinations, no animal will be admitted into the kennels or creche. Please bring a COPY of your dogs vaccination certificate upon arrival as we need one for our records.
The Kennel Cough vaccine must be administered 14 days before arrival or your dog will not be admitted to our kennels or Creche
Kennels that admit dogs without kennel cough and boosters vaccinations are not safe environments for your pet.
What Is Kennel Cough?
Kennel Cough (also known as Trachaeous Bronchitis, Bortadella, and Infectious Bronchitis) is a common infectious disease that contains mixed bacteria and viruses.
Despite the name it is not restricted to kennels and can be picked by dogs in any area where dogs congregate, such as dog shows, training classes, grooming parlours and even veterinary surgeries.
The disease is transmitted via exhaled or coughed breath. A cough typically develops about 3-4 days after exposure which appears harsh and loud. A mild nasal discharge may also be present. Very young or old dogs may have more severe cases but mild cases do resolve themselves.
As a prevention - a kennel cough vaccine which contains the anti-bacterial and anti-viral forms are administered in a spray up the nose. This needs to be done 14 days before a dog goes into boarding. The vaccine is not 100% reliable, but if symptoms do appear they are much milder than in un-vaccinated dogs. If you have any doubts, you can always contact your local vet.
